In the spring of 2020, during the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic, co-founders Korinn Y. Carter and Sherron "Nikki" Shaw embarked on a transformative mission. Drawn by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of underserved individuals and families, they envisioned a sanctuary—a place where holistic wellness and comprehensive support intersected to uplift entire communities. Their collaborative efforts brought to fruition the St. Luke Legacy Center, with Korinn's visionary leadership and love for programming complemented by Nikki's wealth of experience in clinical mental health within our communities. Together, they bring decades of expertise and a steadfast dedication to effecting positive change. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a beacon of hope and empowerment, the St. Luke Legacy Center remains unwavering in its commitment to serving the Greater Richmond area. As President and CEO, Korinn brings a wealth of expertise and passion to her role at the helm of the St. Luke Legacy Center. With a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Communication from George Mason University, coupled with extensive experience as a serial social entrepreneur, Korinn possesses a unique skill set perfectly suited for leading the organization. Notably, her qualification as a Mental Health Professional for both children and adults enriches her leadership, enabling a nuanced understanding and effective response to the mental health needs within the community.
Korinn's unwavering commitment to effecting positive change is evident in her tireless dedication to social services since 2011. Through the founding and management of various agencies and organizations, she has consistently championed the cause of community empowerment. Her belief in the transformative power of collective action serves as an inspiration, rallying others to join her in uplifting individuals and families across Greater Richmond.

Meet Korinn
With a robust background in psychology and a rich history of social entrepreneurship, Korinn drives transformative change at St. Luke Legacy Center. Discover how her commitment to community empowerment and mental health is crafting a brighter future for Greater Richmond.
Nikki's educational journey includes a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Radford University, followed by an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling with a focus on Mental Health & Substance Abuse from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her professional qualifications include licenses as a Professional Counselor, Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, and certifications as a Substance Abuse Counselor and Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist.
What drew Nikki to the St. Luke Legacy Center was the profound opportunity to establish a haven where entire families within our communities could access top-tier mental health and wellness services. With over 15 years of experience in therapeutic counseling, Nikki brings a wealth of expertise in catering to individuals of all ages, encompassing diverse populations affected by mental health, intellectual disabilities, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. Her scope of practice extends to encompass individual, couples, family, group, and crisis counseling services.
Nikki's favorite quote is, 'Pay now, play later. Play now, pay later' resonates deeply with the ethos of the St. Luke Legacy Center. It embodies the principle of investing in the present to reap greater rewards in the future—a philosophy mirrored in the center's commitment to providing quality mental health and wellness services to the community. St. Luke Legacy Center aims to build a healthier, more resilient community for generations to come by prioritizing the well-being of individuals and families today.

Located in the Greater Richmond area, A New Legacy Family Services is a community-based mental and behavioral health agency dedicated to offering culturally specific, informed, and responsive wraparound support. We specialize in meeting the comprehensive needs of families, particularly within minority and underrepresented communities. Our mission is to challenge and change the stereotypes associated with mental and behavioral health diagnoses. By designing and delivering services and programs "for US, by US," we empower our clients and foster a more inclusive understanding of mental health.
